Together for Humanity Project

The Together for Humanity Project in Queensland is a jointly funded State and Commonwealth Government initiative with the Together for Humanity Foundation to support teachers to reduce prejudice and cultivate a more harmonious society.

The project actively engages students in cultural education, raising awareness on religious diversity and delivering a greater understanding of multiculturalism. Students participate in an education program that will work on replacing prejudice with empathy and respect.

The project draws on the values common to people of all belief systems. This assists in combating negative attitudes that threaten the acceptance of diversity in our community. It guides students to develop religious and culturally inclusive values and highlights what people from different backgrounds have in common.

Students experience a range of educational processes, leading to increased appreciation of and commitment to, acceptance of people from diverse backgrounds, including diverse beliefs. They will discuss common approaches to values and participate in service projects that reflect and communicate their experiences.

Facilitators from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths along with facilitators from Indigenous and other faith backgrounds engage with children through fun activities, discussions and sharing experiences.

The project can be delivered in various ways including workshops and the Sister Schools and Service Together programs.

Interaction among students will be facilitated across different schools. Inter-school activities will involve the Sister Schools and Service Together program.

The Service Together Program pairs classes from two diverse schools who undertake a service learning project. The program can be customised to fit school HPE, SOSE, social justice, values or citizenship programs so that students can achieve specific curriculum outcomes.
