The Australian South Sea Islander Community Foundation has available a trust fund that was established by the Queensland Government under the Queensland Community Foundation to provide scholarships to Australian South Sea Islander students to assist them with their undergraduate university studies.

Scholarships are awarded annually to the value of $5000 per year for full-time students or $2500 per year for part-time students.

The scholarship program is run through the following Queensland universities:

  • James Cook University
  • Central Queensland University
  • Queensland University of Technology

The application process for the 2012 scholarship program is now closed. Australian South Sea Islander students wanting to undertake an undergraduate university course are encouraged to apply for the 2013 scholarship program.

The Queensland Government established the foundation in 2001 when it contributed $100,000 to the fund. The corporate sector and individuals are invited to make financial contributions to support the foundation.

A number of donors have made generous contributions to the foundation including CSR Sugar among others.

The foundation is independently managed by The Public Trustee under the umbrella of the Queensland Community Foundation.
