What is the Queensland Migration Heritage Partnership?
Queensland has a proud migration heritage.
The Queensland Migration Heritage Partnership will draw together artefacts and heritage to recreate, share and promote migration and settlement experiences in Queensland.
Through the partnership's proposed online presence, all Queenslanders will be able to explore the stories and experiences of a diverse range of people from all over the world who now call Queensland home.
These fascinating and compelling migration stories are part of this state's rich migration legacy.
Supporting multiculturalism in Queensland
In the Queensland Multicultural Policy: A multicultural future for all of us, the Queensland Government committed to foster more inclusive communities by:
- linking community groups with institutions such as the State Library of Queensland, Queensland Museum, Queensland State Archives and regional and local cultural bodies
- promoting activities that preserve and promote cultural artefacts relevant to the migration and settlement experience
- promoting multiculturalism through the new Queensland Multicultural Centre at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane.
The Queensland Migration Heritage Partnership supports this commitment.
What are the aims of the partnership?
The Queensland Migration Heritage Partnership aims to:
- identify, interpret, celebrate and provide access to the heritage of migration and settlement in Queensland
- acknowledge and recognise the state's multicultural heritage
- build awareness of migrant and refugee experiences and contributions to Queensland
- strengthen a shared sense of belonging, mutual respect, understanding and social inclusion among all Queenslanders
- increase community engagement with Queensland's migrant heritage
- empower communities to express their own stories.
